News, News, News – A pile of news concerning ICARUS and our various projects.
The bishop of the Diocese of St. Pölten (AT) Klaus Küng awarded the former director of the Regional Archive of Lower Austria Anton Eggendorfer and the director of the Archive of the Diocese of Passau (DE) Herbert Wurster with the Hippolyt Holy Order in gold on 14 March 2014 – the recognition for their meritorious work on the archives of the Diocese.
Thomas Aigner (Director of the Archive of the Diocese of St. Pölten / AT) emphasized that Anton Eggendorfer and Herbert Wurster righteously deserve great recognition for their achievements in the matter of mastering the challenges the Archive of the Diocese is facing in times of far reaching changes through digitisation. Their tireless dedication has not only initiated projects such as the digitisation of the charters of ecclesiastical archives (www.monasterium.net) and parish registers (www.matricula-online.eu) but even more ensured their successful implementation.

Yesterday on 05 December 2013 our ICARUS president Thomas Aigner was awarded with the Decoration of Honour in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria. As inspiring pioneer in terms of the digitization of archival documents and unparalleled catalyst advocating and actively originating initiatives and projects which establish and strengthen international networks within the archival world, we can´t think of a better recipient for this honouring.
With the foundation of monasterium.net, the most comprehensive virtual portal of medieval charters world wide, Matricula which allocates the complete church registers of the Diocese of St. Pölten online, and as president of ICARUS, Thomas Aigner can not only be considered the founder of online sources of archival information but he will most certainly keep pushing the boundaries of today and strike out the path into the future!
We as his team and co-workers are extremely proud of his achievements and ambitious aspirations and are looking forward to further on setting out on this adventurous and thrilling journey with him! Last but not least, how can we not be absolutely cheerful for a president and friend, that always has a smile on his face, is never shy to pull a joke, has an open ear for all of us at any time and is a passionate metal head?!?!?!
