Travelling exhibition
“Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar”
The Archives of Vojvodina in Novi Sad (RS) in cooperation with ICARUS, the Austrian Association of Danube Swabians and the municipality of Marchtrenk (AT) are bringing the travelling exhibition “Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar” (1849-1861) to the Upper Austrian town Marchtrenk (AT).
The reason for this exhibition’s location is obvious: every second citizen has his or her origins in the former Banat of Temeschwar, a region that is spread across today`s Serbia, Romania and Hungary. The expulsion of the Danube Swabians after the Second World War brought many refugees to Upper Austria, a refugee camp in Linz to be precise. Many of which later settled down in Marchtrenk.
